Almost 83 million, of the 135 million babies born every year globally, are not enabled to follow optimal breastfeeding practices.

Globally, more than 800,000 under five deaths are caused by suboptimal breastfeeding practices.

This could be changed if all countries invested in implementing the Global Strategy for Infant and Young Child Feeding in full. Financial investment is crucial to ensuring that all women are protected and supported to enable optimal breastfeeding.
