Current Work of the Tasmanian Breastfeeding Coalition
The Tasmanian Breastfeeding Coalition is currently working together to promote breastfeeding in Tasmania.
Achievements in 2009:
Advocating for supportive environments for breastfeeding
Working with the Population Health division of the Department of Health and Human Services to have all worksites accredited as Breastfeeding-Friendly Workplaces.
Advocating for breastfeeding to be prioritised on the national agenda
Response by the Tasmanian Breastfeeding Coalition to the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) Food Regulation Policy Options for the Regulation of Infant Formula Products.

Advocating for community support for breastfeeding
In partnership with the Australian Breastfeeding Association (Tas Branch) were successful in receiving funding from the Tasmanian Early Years Foundation to host ‘Every Drop Counts’. This education and promotional event aims to increase the awareness of the economical benefits of breastfeeding by the community and key decision makers including state and local government officials, the business and economic development sectors and community leaders. The ‘Every Drop Counts’ event is planned for April 2010, watch this space for more information.

Advocating for community support for breastfeeding
Assisted the Australian Breastfeeding Association (Tasmanian Branch) to develop a submission to seek funding for the printing and distribution of Baby Care Room Pamphlets. This resource will provide information on the facilities in Tasmania that enable mothers to feed and change their babies and toddlers when they are away from home.
Contacted Choice Magazine, to request that they look into publishing an article on breast pumps.
Promoted World Breastfeeding Awareness Week in Tasmania.
